Newcastle United host Arsenal this evening with one foot in the Carabao Cup final.
Eddie Howe’s side host the Gunners at St James’ Park, boasting a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in North London. Goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon sealed success at the Emirates.
Newcastle are bidding to reach the Carabao Cup final for the second time in three seasons. The Magpies lost the 2023 decider to Manchester United and are aiming to go one better this time around. Howe’s side are seeking to end the club’s 70-year wait for a major trophy.
However, Newcastle will need to improve from recent performances. Consecutive home defeats to Bournemouth and Fulham have dented their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
In contrast, Arsenal head into the contest in confident mood. The Gunners thrashed Manchester City 5-1 at the weekend to increase optimism around a potential turnaround tonight.
Newcastle look likely to be without Joelinton after the midfielder was forced off against Fulham with a knee injury. The Brazilian was pictured in a knee brace following the weekend clash. Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles also remain out, though Callum Wilson is in contention to make the squad after an injury-hit campaign.
A decision will be made on whether Sven Botman returns at centre-back, while goalkeeper Nick Pope could made his first appearance since December. Bruno Guimaraes is back after missing the first leg through suspension.
Newcastle predicted XI: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

The second leg of this Carabao Cup semi-final will be available to watch on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Ultra, Sky Go UK and NOW UK.
