Dante (41) has signed a one-year contract extension at OGC Nice. It is expected to be his last with the Brazilian publically stating a desire to retire at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Since his move from Wolfsburg for €2.5m back in 2016, Dante has become an immovable figure in the Nice line-up, despite his age. He has made an impressive 300 appearances for Les Aiglons, many of which he has been captain; he has eight goals and 11 assists in that time.

Amid uncertainty, he extended following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign for a further year. There is no repeat with Dante’s future at the club secured for another season. But he will not go beyond that, as he told AFP. “If I play next year again, it will be my last season,” said the former Brazil international and Bayern Munich defender. It means that Dante will complete a 10th and final season at Nice. He will be hoping that it will include a European adventure with the club currently third and therefore on course for UEFA Champions League qualification.
