Bayer Leverkusen are “convinced” that they can overturn a 3-0 deficit to beat Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday night.
A Harry Kane brace and a goal from Jamal Musiala puts Vincent Kompany’s side in a 3-0 lead heading into the second leg at the BayArena, but Xabi Alonso and his players appear ready for tomorrow’s clash.
Speaking in Monday’s press conference on Bayer Leverkusen’s approach, Alonso said: “We have to prepare well. The team is convinced that we can win the game.
“We have nothing to lose. Only Bayern has something to lose. In football, anything can happen. Many small details will decide the outcome. If we make mistakes, we have no chance.”
Jonathan Tah, also present at the press conference, chimed in, adding: “We must not approach the game with fear. We can only win. With our team we have a chance and that his how we will approach the game.”
Bayer Leverkusen confirmed on Monday that Florian Wirtz would be sidelined for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury. The Germany international sustained an ankle in Bayer’s defeat against Werder Bremen at the weekend, but it could also be a blessing in disguise for Bayer Leverkusen.
