To put things in perspective, the winger’s form is nothing short of a spectacle, and this has come a couple of seasons after he decided to move on from Barcelona to PSG after a bittersweet exit from La Liga..

Now, speaking ahead of PSG’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Aston Villa, Dembele appeared before the media.

The forward was asked whether he felt this is the best team he has played for, and the 26-year-old offered a candid response.

“I don’t know if it’s the best. I played in Messi’s Barça. For me, he is the best player of all time, but yes, it is this PSG, the team in which I have the most fun,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Dembele’s comments carry a significant weight of reflection, showing that he still admires his time at Barcelona, especially sharing the pitch with Lionel Messi.

Not a happy ending

It is important to remember that Dembele’s transfer to PSG in the summer of 2023 was unexpected, especially after he had extended his contract with Barcelona just a year earlier.

It is safe to say that his departure left a bittersweet feeling among the Barcelona faithful and this is because the Frenchman was once considered a key part of the club’s future.

However, he decided to take a different path, and according to multiple reports, his reasons go deeper than just footballing ambition.

It is said that Dembele did not feel trusted by a few members within the Barcelona setup, and this lack of confidence, combined with uncertainty over his extension at the time, led him to fear a repeat of previous treatment where he was benched or pressured if negotiations stalled.

That experience ultimately pushed him to seek a new challenge elsewhere, and he eventually landed at PSG.
