Paris Public Prosecutor opens investigation following homophobic chants at PSG game | OneFootball

Paris’ Public Prosecutor have opened an enquiry into homophobic chants, sung by Paris Saint-Germain fans during last weekend’s 4-2 victory over RC Strasbourg Alsace at the Parc des Princes.

The homophobic chants targeted rivals Olympique de Marseille and former PSG player Adrien Rabiot, who recently signed for Les Phocéens on a free transfer. Those chants were repeated throughout the game, and at the end of the encounter on Saturday evening, despite calls from the club’s speaker to stop.

“Against homophobia, racism and all forms of discrimination, we make up just one team,” he said. That message was booed by some parts of the crowd at the Parc des Princes before the chants continued. The LFP have already announced that they are investigating the chants. PSG are expected to be sanctioned, either through a fine or by closing stands. A decision is expected on Wednesday 30th October.

However, Paris’ Public Prosecutor is also now investigating the incident for “public provocation of hate or violence based on sexual orientation or sexual identity and for public insult based on sexual orientation or sexual identity”. The investigation is being led by the Brigade for the Suppression of Crimes against Persons (BRDP).
