Paul Scholes has said that he noticed Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho “sulking”.
The TNT Sports pundit made the observation after Man United’s 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad away from home at Reale Arena on Thursday evening.
Joshua Zirkzee scored his first goal in Europe for Man Utd when he found the back of the net in the 57th minute with a low strike from the edge of the box. Garnacho provided the assist.
Mikel Oyarzabal restored parity for Sociedad from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, as the first leg of the UEFA Europa League last-16 tie in Spain ended in a 1-1 draw.
The spot kick was awarded after a review by the video assistant referee for a handball by Man United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
Garnacho started the match for Ruben Amorim’s side in a 3-4-3 formation.
The 20-year-old Argentina international forward was taken off for Christian Eriksen in the 78th minute.
Man United legend Scholes was following the match, and he noticed that Garnacho, who was linked with Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, was sulking.
Scholes said on TNT Sports: “He looks like he is sulking a little bit to me.”
Garnacho is a very talented and promising young winger, but he has not been great this season.
The Argentine star did not have a great game against Sociedad, and it did not come as a surprise when Amorim decided to take him off.
The forward did not make enough runs in behind the Sociedad defender.
Although Garnacho did provide a good assist, he himself could have scored and did not look very comfortable in front of goal.
However, one should not forget that Garnacho is only 20. He is still improving and developing as a footballer and is not the finished article.
