It is set to be a busy end to the transfer window at Home Park, with players being linked with a move away and new arrivals expected
Plymouth Argyle are a club on the rocks at the minute, with the Greens in danger of being cut off at the bottom of the Championship after a wretched run of form.
Miron Muslic is the man tasked with trying to turn things around at Home Park between now and the end of the season, and the Austrian will likely have plenty on his hands before the transfer window shuts on February 3, with incomings and outgoings expected in the following weeks in Devon.
The former Cercle Brugge boss has already voiced his displeasure at his side’s performances since being appointed as Wayne Rooney’s successor earlier in the month, and will no doubt be looking to bring in some new blood to turn things around, as the battle against the drop continues in earnest.
Here we take a look at the latest rumours circulating Home Park right now, with a familiar story unfolding surrounding one of the Pilgrims’ star players.
It wouldn’t be a transfer window without a side trying to take Morgan Whittaker off Argyle’s hands, would it?
It has been the case for the last two transfer windows, with the likes of Brentford and Fulham said to be keen this time last year before Burnley and Rangers were turned away in the summer, and this time it is Middlesbrough who have joined the party.
That's according to Alan Nixon via Patreon, who claims that Boro have launched a £5 million bid for the 24-year-old, although the Devon outfit are said to rate their forward closer to the £10 million mark.
Football League World understands that Argyle are set to reject the Teessiders' offer.
Simon Hallett and the powers that be at Home Park have already rejected another bid from Burnley in the current transfer window and will be preparing themselves for another transfer battle this month, as interest hots up.
With just three league goals this season, Whittaker has been far from his best in a struggling side, and with his output being far from ideal, the Greens may be considering moving him on in January and bringing in reinforcements to help in their plight against the drop.
Argyle were abject in their 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, with Home Park paying witness to a performance that their side usually reserve for games on the road this season, as they barely troubled the visitors throughout the 90 minutes.
Muslic described the showing as ‘a terrible performance’ and lambasted his forward line for their lack of physicality up top in his post-match debrief, before hinting that more players will be arriving at Home Park before too long.
"It's not only about getting the players in, it's about supporting this current squad and they need this,” he told the BBC.
"Argyle was very clear to me over the last 10 days, 12 days, that they are pushing and they are preparing the necessary support for the team, and I think in the next couple of days we will also have some players here.
"I know the time is ticking because the schedule is heavy, but also is for the other teams.
"It's about us finding the right personality and the right character players who realise the urgent situation we are in, ready to come here to fight, to support, and to find a way out.
"If we can manage to do this we have a chance to stay up.”
That activity will be music to the ears of the Green Army, who have seen their side depleted through injuries, suspensions and departures of late, with reinforcements needed across the board in the hope of raising standards on the pitch in the second half of the campaign.
Whittaker isn’t the only left-footed Argyle forward attracting interest right now, with reports claiming that teenage sensation Tegan Finn is being monitored by Premier League clubs.
The 16-year-old is highly rated by everyone at Home Park, having made his debut earlier in the season at Elland Road, as the Pilgrims went down 3-0 to Leeds United.
The young prospect then made his first start for the club against Coventry City on Boxing Day, and showed glimpses of his potential in the Midlands, leaving the travelling Argyle support excited by what is to come from their academy prospect.
But according to Football Insider, a number of top-tier clubs are chasing the young talent as it stands, and they will be looking to capitalise on the fact that the teenager is yet to sign a professional deal with the club, as his apprenticeship elapses at the end of next season.
