How much have the various Premier League clubs spent on signing players?

Not just this current 2024/25 season but across the entire Premier League era.

The first Premier League season after the top tier was rebranded, was 1992/93.

So now we are coming to the end of the 2024/25 campaign, that makes 33 Premier League seasons in total so far.

Research has been carried out by football finance expert Kieran Maguire to give a complete record, which Premier League clubs have spent the most, then the ones who have not spent quite so much.

The spending relates to only during the time each of the Premier League clubs were in the top tier, it doesn’t include any transfer spending when they were in the lower leagues during these last 33 years.

So for example, Newcastle United have been one of the Premier League clubs in 30 of the 33 PL seasons, whilst Sunderland have been in the top tier in 16 of the 33 PL seasons, spending the other 17 of them in the lower leagues.

As you can see, Chelsea way out at the top, having spent over £4Billion (£4,013m) on new signings as a Premier League club!

This is more than £1Billion above the next highest, Man City at just under £3Billion (£2,967m).

Then very predictably, we see Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs also way out ahead of the rest.

These figures above are gross spending on players by Premier League clubs, not net spending (which would be the total paid out on transfer fees and then deducting what clubs have brought in from selling players, to get the net spend).
