The race to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot is heating up with just two goals now separating the three frontrunners.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah leads the way and registered his 19th league goal of the campaign against Ipswich this weekend. Salah has already eclipsed his return from the whole of last season (18) and, incredibly, also leads the Premier League for assists (13).
The 32-year-old is targeting a fourth Golden Boot, having previously won the award in 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2021/22. Only ex-Arsenal forward Thierry Henry (4) has finished as the Premier League’s top scorer on more occasions than Salah.
Erling Haaland is chasing down Salah as he looks to win a third consecutive Golden Boot award. Haaland has five goals in his last five Premier League appearances and 18 for the campaign and counting.
He was on target again as Manchester City beat Chelsea 3-1 at the Etihad on Saturday evening. If successful this season, Haaland will become just the third player to win the Golden Boot in three straight seasons, after Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.
However, Alexander Isak is now right behind the top two. Isak scored twice as Newcastle won 3-1 at Southampton this weekend. The Swedish striker has been in red-hot form for the Magpies, hitting 13 goals in his last 10 games for Eddie Howe’s side. Last season, he became the first Newcastle player since the aforementioned Shearer to reach 20+ league goals in a top-flight season.
