Eintracht host bottom club VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga on Saturday, aware they’ll need another battling performance.
Backdrop
With the stands at Deutsche Bank Park probably still shaking after all the celebrations following Eintracht’s DFB Cup second-round win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday evening, the Eagles’ next home game is just around the corner when they host VfL Bochum on Saturday 2 November (kick-off 15:30 CET). “We’ll need to show all our willpower once more against Bochum, as well as our footballing and battling qualities,” said sporting director Timmo Hardung.
The Eagles are currently sixth in the Bundesliga standings on 14 points following last weekend’s 1-1 draw at 1. FC Union Berlin, just one point behind the teams in positions third to fifth. The outlook for Bochum, however, is far less positive.
With just one point earned from eight games so far – a 2-2 draw against Holstein Kiel – Bochum are bottom of the table. New head coach Markus Feldhoff has been in office for ten days, having taken over from Peter Zeidler, and the 50-year-old suffered a 5-0 home defeat by Bayern Munich on his debut last weekend.
Ton-up Marmoush
The match will be a special occasion for Omar Marmoush. The Frankfurt goal-getter, who came off the bench to score the winner against Gladbach on Wednesday and celebrated with a Halloween mask, is set to make his 100th Bundesliga appearance. Incidentally, last weekend Mario Götze marked his landmark 300thBundesliga outing with the opening goal in Berlin.
Marmoush has 29 Bundesliga goals and 16 assists to his name so far, with nine and four of those respectively coming this season. The Egypt international was also on the scoresheet the last time the teams met in a 1-1 draw in Frankfurt in February this year. This time, the hope is for all three points.
