After an immensely successful international break, Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is attracting interest from abroad. Sport Bild reports that PSG are prepared to throw €60-70m Dortmund’s way for the 20-times-capped international. The Ligue 1 champions reportedly have interest in making Schlotterbeck the centerpiece of their summer defensive rebuild.
PSG were not among the five clubs reported to be interested in Schlotterbeck earlier this week, meaning the race for the 25-year-old is truly heating up. Whether or not BVB have any interest in allowing a player they’ve hoped to retain this summer depart remains to be seen as their central defensive options remain thin.
Summer signing Waldemar Anton has proven something of a flop and former Bayern centre-back Niklas Süle continues to struggle. BVB captain Emré Can is the only other player on the current squad with extensive experience in central defence. Can continues to exhibit personal and professional exhaustion.
At present, Schlotterbeck maintains an estimated market worth of €40m. Selling him at nearly twice that price may constitute an offer Dortmund cannot refuse.
