According to a fresh report from MARCA, Luka Modric has once again become a target for clubs outside Europe—with Qatar now showing serious interest in signing the Croatian maestro for next season.

However, as things stand, the Real Madrid legend appears far from ready to end his journey in the Spanish capital.

Qatar is said to be keen on strengthening its domestic league, especially in light of the Saudi Pro League’s recent spending spree.

Signing someone of Modric’s calibre would be a major statement. But prising him away from Madrid won’t be easy—nor is it likely Modric will accept unless he is sure his time in white is truly up.

At 39, Modric continues to defy age and expectations. He has made it clear on several occasions that his top priority is to retire at Real Madrid—a club where he has spent the last 13 years and become nothing short of a legend.

The scenario is eerily similar to last season, when contract talks with Madrid were left until the final stretch before being swiftly and smoothly resolved.

No long negotiations. No drama. Just mutual respect between president Florentino Perez and one of the greatest midfielders to ever wear the Madrid shirt.

No renewal talks yet

As of now, no renewal talks have begun, but that is not unusual. In Modric’s case, it all boils down to performance and timing. He has always been open to discussing his future near the end of the season, and this year seems no different.

His performance on the pitch remains his strongest argument for staying. What is also clear is that Modric has not made any decision about retirement, and with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, he is still eyeing a place in Croatia’s squad.

If he remains fit and competitive, there is every chance he will continue at the top level for at least one more season.

Qatar’s interest is flattering, and they may offer a lucrative financial package—just like Saudi Arabia did two years ago when Al Ahli Jeddah reportedly put an €80 million deal on the table.

Modric turned that down without hesitation, proving that money is not the deciding factor for him. His heart is in Madrid.
