The next Rangers manager race continues to heat up with fresh odds revealing a clear favourite, but also throwing up some surprise contenders. Steven Gerrard leads the market at 6/4, with a growing movement among Rangers fans to bring the former boss back to Ibrox. His previous spell delivered success, notably stopping Celtic’s 10-in-a-row, but whether he’s the right man to return remains hotly debated.

Just behind Gerrard, Southampton’s Russell Martin sits second favourite at 4/1. The young boss has impressed many with his footballing philosophy, and with Rangers already being linked to players from the Championship, the connection seems realistic. However, whether Martin would leave a promising Southamptonproject is another question.

Further down the list, Davide Ancelotti and Frank Lampard are both priced at 10/1, raising eyebrows. Ancelotti, son of the legendary Carlo, has no first-team management experience, while Lampard’s stock has risen dramatically after a string of poor managerial spells was curtailed at Coventry. Rangers fans might not be inspired by either.

Interestingly, former Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose comes in at 11/1. With a top Bundesliga CV and Champions League experience, Rose could represent a real coup if the club can pull it off. Current Germany assistant Danny Röhl follows at 12/1, while Derek McInnes (16/1) and Gary O’Neil (20/1) round off the betting as longer shots.

Of course, as reported by Football Insider, Gerrard is understood to be keen on a return, and his name continues to dominate discussions. Whether Rangers opt for the familiar or take a bold new direction remains to be seen, but the board will know just how big this decision is.
