If a recent tweet from Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto is believed to be true, Rangers had a deadline-day bid rejected for Monza attacking ace Omari Forson. The youngster left Manchester United last summer to join the Serie A outfit but have struggled for minutes in Lombardy over the past six months.

The 20-year-old forward had his stints with West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur before joining the esteemed youth set-up of Man United. After making significant strides through the academy ranks, Forson was eventually handed a first-team debut by the then-boss Erik ten Hag. He also assisted Kobbie Mainoo on his Premier League debut, as the latter’s 97th-minute strike turned out to be a last-gasp winner in a thrilling 4-3 victory against Wolves at Molineux.

Although the Red Devils were desperate to keep hold of the England youth international, the homegrown prospect rejected a new contract offer to ply his trade to Italy on a Bosman transfer. But he does not seem to be in Salvatore Bocchetti’s plans as his only start was in the Italy Cup against Brescia. Despite being rock-bottom in the standings, the Biancorossi manager has only deployed him five times in the league as a late substitute.

Rangers saw the opportunity to bring Forson to Glasgow on an initial short-term loan, particularly after being demoted to Monza’s Under-20 side last month. Yet they rejected the Light Blues’ proposal, thus leaving them with Rafael Fernandes as the only January signing.

Why Rangers Should Return For Him In Summer

Fernandes, roped in on loan from Lille, has restored their depth in the decimated backline. He, along with Clinton Nsiala, Robin Propper and the fit-again John Souttar, should offer enough cover for the remainder of the campaign. But the gaffer ‘wanted more‘ as the club could not snap up other targets including Lyall Cameron.

The young Scotsman has penned a pre-contract agreement to complete a free transfer in the summer, but the Gers wanted to have him as early as last month. A fee could not be agreed with Dundee for their prized asset, nevertheless, his move to Ibrox is inevitable, unlike Forson’s as it remains to be seen whether the Ibrox giants return for him upon the conclusion of the current campaign.

Rangers academy duo Alex Lowry and Zak Lovelace have completed cross-border transfers to Wycombe Wanderers and Millwall. Veteran Tom Lawrence will part ways once his contract expires in the summer, also, Rabbi Matondo, no longer in the manager’s plans, has been loaned out to Hannover.

Moreover, they would find it difficult to convert Vaclav Cerny’s loan to a permanent deal, and the Glasgow giants, therefore, must consider reinforcements to close the gap with Celtic. Forson, who is effective from the flanks as well as in the ‘number 10’ role, could be a value-for-money signing if he justifies his potential.
