Marcus Rashford has undertaken his medical at Aston Villa ahead of his surprise loan move from Manchester United.

The England international has been phased out by Ruben Amorim, who has publicly criticised the forward’s lack of effort in training.

Rashford was expected to move abroad with long-term admirers Paris Saint-Germain reportedly considering a move but Villa have swooped in and look set to complete the deal.

Reports have suggested that Villa will cover 70% of Rashford’s wages and there will be a buyout clause inserted within his contract worth £40m.

The 27-year-old hasn’t featured for United since December 12 and he has made just six appearances under Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag back in November.

The move to Villa Park represents an opportunity for Rashford to rediscover his very best form with the 2026 World Cup less than 18 months away.

Various reports have suggested that Rashford and Amorim fell out just days after the Portuguese coach was hired at Old Trafford.

Rashford was left out of the Manchester derby victory at the Etihad before Christmas and Amorim revealed afterwards that he wasn’t happy with the forward’s commitment.

Ahead of Thursday’s Europa League victory in Bucharest, Amorim insisted his stance wouldn’t change, despite admitting United would be far better off with Rashford in his side.

“Imagine a talent like Rashford, our team should be so much better with him, but he has to change, we need it,” he claimed.

“We have to set standards and we are waiting for Marcus if he really wants it, I have nothing against Marcus I just have to make the same rules for everyone.”

It seems, though, Rashford’s immediate future lies elsewhere with Villa poised to complete the signing before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Rashford’s first appearance for Villa could well be in next Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Tottenham at Villa Park.
