The Manchester United striker had not scored for three months before getting on the scoresheet against Leicester City last weekend.

Hojlund made his mark just nine minutes after coming on in the 69th minute. He latched onto a low cross from Andreas Skov Olsen and guided the ball into the bottom corner.

The goal sparked wild celebrations at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen as Hojlund wheeled away and performed Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siu’ celebration.

The 22-year-old’s celebration caught the attention of the crowd and his teammates, who swarmed him in excitement.

However, Ronaldo did not look pleased as he stood with his hands on his hips, watching Hojlund mimic his signature move.

Hojlund’s tribute to his idol

Hojlund spoke about his admiration for Ronaldo before the game, calling him a major influence on his career.

Although Hojlund appeared to taunt the Portuguese legend with his celebration, he had shown full respect for the former Manchester United attacker before kick-off.

“Now, I’m not going to exaggerate, but Cristiano is everything to me,” Hojlund told DR Sporten.

“I fell in love with football because of Cristiano – I became a Manchester United fan because of Cristiano.

“I started self-training because of Cristiano – I started doing push-ups and sit-ups every day before I went to bed because of Cristiano because I wanted to be Cristiano.”

Denmark had several chances to extend their lead, but Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa made crucial saves. United’s Christian Eriksen had a first-half penalty saved by Costa.

He also had a goal-bound effort cleared off the line by club teammate Diogo Dalot.

Despite Portugal’s efforts to equalise, they could not break through Denmark’s defence in the closing stages.

Hojlund’s goal and tribute celebration could be remembered as a pivotal moment.
