Real Betis star has ‘said yes’ to summer Atlético Madrid switch | OneFootball

A leading member of the midfield ranks at Real Betis has given the green light to a move to La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid this summer.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Johnny Cardoso as the player in question.

Midfielder Johnny, for his part, is fresh off a fine campaign in Seville, which saw the United States international continue to act as a consistent source of excellence at the heart of Real Betis’ engine room.

Such efforts did not go at all unnoticed across the European football landscape, with a number of clubs from Spain and beyond understood to be keen on bringing Johnny in this summer.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, though, then one clear frontrunner in the race for the 23-year-old now appears to have emerged.

As per a report from Marca, Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement with Johnny himself, over the terms of a joining of forces this summer:

‘What weeks ago was a declaration of intent is now an outline of what his contract as an Atlético player will be like, as the parties have now reached a complete understanding.’

Atléti will now set about securing a similar agreement with Real Betis, albeit with it also worth noting that Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur boast a first right of refusal on Johnny, as per the terms of Giovani Lo Celso’s return to the Estadio Benito Villamarín.
