With Dani Carvajal’s injury, there is a high possibility that Real Madrid can go into the winter transfer market after a break of six years to strengthen their defence. As things stand, the Merengues have only Lucas Vazquez available at the right-back position, and Rudiger, Militao, and Jesus Vallejo as their centre-back options, with Tchouameni being an emergency option for this position.

It is still not clear when David Alaba will be able to return to the field, and Militao has also been physically fragile in this early part of the season. Thus, the defensive situation of the squad can derail the entire season for Real Madrid, and Los Blancos can opt for a short-term solution by bringing in a right-back and a centre-back in January.

But the Merengues are also looking for a long-term partner for Eder Militao, as Alaba is already 32 and Rudiger is 31, while the youngsters Jacobo Ramon and Joan Martinez do not yet look ready to take on first-team responsibilities.

In such circumstances, Diario AS reports that Real Madrid already have their options identified for this purpose, and one of the highest on their list of potential targets is the Brazilian youngster, Vitor Reis.

The 18-year-old is a very attractive target for Los Blancos as he is already a starter for his Palmeiras side in Brazil, but signing him will not really be easy as there are several other big European clubs interested in him, including the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Barcelona.

For now, Real Madrid are taking the same patient approach that paid them high dividends in the pursuit of Vinicius, Rodrygo, Camavinga, Tchouameni, Guler, Bellingham, and Endrick. They are currently establishing contacts and rapport with the player and the people close to him, as they try to convince him of his position in the club and thus avoid a bidding war with other big clubs.

Reis has a contract with Palmeiras till 2028, and a release clause of €100 million. But the amount that Madrid pays for him will have to be significantly lower than this, and this is where some Premier League clubs can complicate the operation for the Merengues with their greater economic muscle.

In such a context, the behind-the-scenes work that Real Madrid is undertaking will be crucial in determining the successful outcome of this operation.
