Real Madrid have finally secured a date to review the audio recordings from the controversial decision not to send off Espanyol’s Carlos Romero following his challenge on Kylian Mbappe.
For weeks, the club have expressed their frustration, firmly believing that Romero shousld have been shown a red card for his reckless tackle on the French forward.
In response, they demanded access to the discussions between the on-field referee and the VAR officials to understand how the decision was reached.
Now, as reported by SPORT, a Real Madrid delegation is set to travel on Monday, February 17, to the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), where the recordings will be played for them.
While the RFEF have refused to hand over the audio files directly, they have agreed to let club representatives listen to the conversations.

Madrid are particularly interested in reviewing two key moments—the disallowed goal by Vinicius Jr. and, most importantly, the controversial challenge by Romero on Mbappe.
The club have not backed down in what they see as a major officiating error. They previously issued a formal complaint to the RFEF, demanding clarity on how such a critical mistake occurred.
Their persistence has led to repercussions for the match officials involved. The on-field referee, Muniz Ruiz, along with VAR official Javier Iglesias Villanueva, have been sidelined indefinitely due to the incident.
Even within refereeing circles, the decision has been met with scrutiny. The president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), Luis Medina Cantalejo, subtly acknowledged the error during a recent interview.
Real Madrid remain determined to ensure accountability and transparency in officiating, believing that such mistakes cannot be allowed to continue at the highest level of football.
Their trip to the RFEF headquarters is expected to provide further insight into the decision-making process behind one of the most controversial moments of the season.
