According to a report by Mario Cortegana via The Athletic, Real Madrid fitness coach Antonio Pintus is unlikely to remain with the first-team staff next season.
However, this does not mean he will leave the club entirely. There are discussions within the club about offering him a different role, away from the first-team spotlight.
At one point, Pintus was once seen as a key figure at the club. His training methods were praised for helping the team stay sharp and strong during crucial parts of the previous seasons.
But this campaign has told a different story. Real Madrid have been hit by a wave of injuries, especially muscular ones, and their overall fitness levels seemed to drop just when it mattered most.
What makes the situation more serious is that it is not just outside criticism anymore. Several players inside the club are reportedly unhappy with the current training loads and the number of injuries.
Many are said to be frustrated with how often they are sidelined due to physical problems. Whether this is entirely Pintus’ fault or not, it has raised questions about whether his methods still fit the needs of today’s squad.
Adding more uncertainty to his future is the arrival of Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid’s new manager.
Alonso is known to have his own trusted fitness coach, and it is widely believed that he will bring his own staff to help shape the team in his image. If that happens, Pintus’ current role may no longer exist.
While he may be reassigned within the club due to his experience and past success, it seems clear that his time leading the physical preparation of Real Madrid’s first team is coming to an end.
