With Real Madrid in the market for a centre-back for the future, the name of Palmeiras youngster Vitor Reis has been heavily touted as a target.
The Merengues have been monitoring the 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy and had lodged enquiries about his availability.
But the interest in the young centre-half did not go beyond the initial enquiry and he is now headed to Manchester City, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
Now, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic has shed light on why Real Madrid did not press ahead with their interest in Vitor Reis.

As per the report, Los Blancos had serious doubts about the young centre-back’s defending skills particularly when being pulled out into the wide areas.
Furthermore, Palmeiras reportedly told Real Madrid that Reis would not be available this month and will only leave after playing for the club in the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer.
All these factors contributed to Real Madrid not following through on their interest in Reis, who is now set to sign for Manchester City.
As for the Merengues, there is no plan to sign a new centre-back this month despite the problems in the position.
Carlo Ancelotti, thus, will have to continue counting on Antonio Rudiger, Aurelien Tchouameni, Raul Asencio, and David Alaba, who will be returning soon.
