Real Madrid legend Marcelo hangs up his boots after an illustrious career | OneFootball

Legendary Real Madrid left-back Marcelo announced his retirement this morning, calling time on his illustrious 19-year career at the age of 36.

The Brazilian was most recently playing for his boyhood club Fluminense, having moved back to his native Brazil after a short stint at Olympiacos two years ago.

Marcelo is most well known for his time at Real Madrid, where he spent 16 years in the Spanish capital, winning 25 trophies including five Champions League titles, six league titles and two Copa del Rey titles.

The legendary Brazilian continued his hunt for silverware on his return to Brazil, winning two trophies with his boyhood club, meaning he had accomplished everything he needed to achieve a satisfying end to his career.

Many Spanish football fans will fondly remember Marcelo as the best left-back in Real Madrid history and arguably one of the best left-backs of all time.

On an individual level, Marcelo was included in the FIFpro World XI six times during his career, cementing his place among the world’s best in the history books.
