There is close to a month left to go before the end of the season but it already appears clear that Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid at the end of it all.

The Merengues, after all, crashed out of not only the UEFA Champions League but even fell short in the Copa del Rey final and are thus dangerously close to going trophy-less this campaign.

Given the manager’s imminent sacking, Los Blancos have been linked with Xabi Alonso as the primary candidate to replace him although the club legend has not given anything away from his end.

Alonso remains quiet

Speaking to the media in a recent press conference for Bayer Leverkusen, the Real Madrid target refused to provide any update on his future and said that any confirmation will have to wait.

“You have many questions about the same old topic, but I have nothing new to say, we have to wait.”

Elaborating on how one cannot dive deep into believing rumours until any official announcement is made, Alonso said,

“It’s been many years in the world of football, we are all professionals. We are working well, we know that the rumours are there, but I am only focused on finishing the season well. I remain calm.”

The Real Madrid target then confirmed that the uncertainty around his future did not affect his current team’s dressing room dynamics in any manner.

“It has no impact, there is a very good atmosphere in training. It’s not a big issue within the squad.”

Alonso then straight out refused to talk about Real Madrid despite the media’s constant pressure and asked for patience.

“I understand all this, but it’s not up to me to talk about other clubs. They are still in a position to fight for the title, the season is not over. We have to wait.”

Finally, he cryptically hinted that he was open to everything and thus did not rule out any links with Los Blancos.

“We are prepared for everything, there was never a problem in that regard. You have to wait for the moment when there is something to communicate.”
