According to a report from Jorge C. Picon (h/t RM4 Arab), there is a growing belief in the idea of renewing Luka Modric’s contract, with both parties now aligned on making it happen. In fact, this week could bring formal news as final talks are set to take place.
Earlier in the season, it seemed almost certain that this campaign would be Modric’s last dance in the famous white shirt. In fact, such an exit was considered likely even in the 2023/24 season.
However, as has been the case many times before, Modric let his football do the talking. His form in the latter half of the season reminded everyone of his irreplaceable value.
Now, the sentiment has changed. Sources close to the player believe that a contract extension is very much on the table, and Modric’s desire to remain at the club he calls home is no secret.
With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, he wants to prepare for the tournament as a Real Madrid player, continuing at the highest level and under the best possible conditions.

Within Valdebebas, there is no questioning Modric’s professionalism, influence, and dedication. His fitness, consistency, and mentality remain exceptional. But not everyone is fully convinced.
Some within the club worry that his continued presence could potentially block the development of emerging midfield talents, such as Arda Guler or even Nico Paz if he arrives. It is a valid concern in a club that is transitioning to a younger core.
Still, the club has always taken a patient approach with these matters, typically waiting until the end of the season to finalise contract decisions.
As of now, there is no official confirmation, but a meeting between Modric and club president Florentino Pérez is expected shortly.
Xabi Alonso, expected to become the new head coach, will also be part of the equation. Having played alongside Modric during his time at the club, Alonso is said to value what the Croatian can offer both on and off the pitch.
Modric’s future, as always, will be decided at the top level of the Valdebebas offices, but the signals are clear that the veteran wants to stay, and the club may now be leaning in that direction too.
