A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has been dropped from international duty.
The player in question? Ferland Mendy.
Left-back Mendy has for his part continued to play a leading role for Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid over the early weeks of the campaign.
All told, across Los Blancos’ 11 outings in all competitions to date, the 29-year-old has featured from the off in nine.
The expectation, in turn, was that Mendy would once again be afforded a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the country’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Israel and Belgium.
This, however, has not proven to be the case.
Les Bleus’ latest panel was unveiled a short time ago, with Real Madrid’s defensive stalwart nowhere to be seen.
Instead, Deschamps and his coaching staff have opted for AC Milan star Theo Hernández, and Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne, as the country’s left-back options.
