Real Madrid vs Arsenal: Preview, predictions and lineups

Real Madrid are aiming to stage another incredible Champions League evening at the Santiago Bernabeu when they play their quarter-final second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday.
The record 15-time champions were humbled during the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, losing 3-0 courtesy of two exquisite Declan Rice free kicks and the sharpshooting of makeshift centre-forward Mikel Merino. Their second-half collapse leaves them needing to overturn a three-goal deficit, something only four sides have managed in Champions League history.
However, if one club can achieve the improbable on a European stage, it's Madrid at the Bernabeu. They have been far from their all-conquering best this season but there is an inexplicable magic that surrounds Los Blancos on Champions League nights in the knockout rounds.
Arsenal will have to be extremely wary of an astounding turnaround and can ill-afford to concede early in Spain. Their impressive defensive record offers them hope of keeping Madrid's superstar forwards at bay and they boast enormous counter-attacking threat. Avoid losing by three goals or more and the Gunners will reach the semis for the first time since 2008/09.
Here is 90min's guide to an enormous encounter on the continent.

Eduardo Camavinga was needlessly sent off in the dying embers of the first leg and is suspended for Wednesday's clash in Madrid. He won't be joined by Kylian Mbappe on the sidelines, however, despite the forward being sent off for a horror challenge against Alaves at the weekend. The 26-year-old's ban only applies in La Liga.
Long-term absentees Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao remain in the treatment room and are not the only defenders missing. Ferland Mendy has been ruled out of the clash as he continues to recover from a hamstring issue, while back-up goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is a doubt due to a muscle problem.
Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior were both only used as second-half substitutes during the win at Alaves but will return to the starting lineup for Arsenal's visit.
Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Valverde, Asencio, Rudiger, Alaba; Tchouameni, Modric; Rodrygo, Bellingham, Vinicius; Mbappe.

Arsenal were sweating on the fitness of Ben White and Thomas Partey ahead of the trip to Madrid but both were pictured in an open training session on Tuesday. However, Jorginho was absent and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.
Gabriel, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori are all missing in the backline, with Jakub Kiwior to fill in at centre-back once again. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are out for the season at the other end of the pitch, with Merino taking up his new centre-forward role on a return to Spain.
Mikel Arteta rested a number of first-teamers for the weekend draw with Brentford, but the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly will all return to the starting XI on Wednesday.
Arsenal predicted lineup vs Real Madrid (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Merino, Martinelli.
Madrid will be spurred on by a cacophonous home crowd on Wednesday evening and a quick start teamed with an early strike could completely alter the complexion of the tie. But Arsenal's stubborn defence will not be simple to breach, even with the weight of the Bernabeu behind the hosts.
Los Blancos will fancy their chances of claiming victory and making the Gunners sweat, but even the Spanish side's fabled aura is unlikely to get them out of this predicament. Arsenal should hold on to their aggregate lead and secure their place in the last four.
