Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad: Match preview

After an unconvincing but key win against Leganes in La Liga at the weekend, Real Madrid are back in action in the Copa del Rey for the first time since February as they host Real Sociedad tonight at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of the semi-final of the Kings Cup. With a 1-0 lead to their name already from the first leg, the team will look to finish the job off in front of its own supporters.
Carlo Ancelotti is set to be without Thibaut Courtois once again as he missed the final training session ahead of the game owing to a fitness issue. He joins the likes of Dani Carvajal, Dani Ceballos, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy on the sidelines. Meanwhile, not many rotations are likely to occur in the team given the magnitude of the fixture as well as the difficulties Sociedad could pose for the hosts.
Real Sociedad also may have five absentees for the game. Brais Mendez, Nayef Aguerd, Jon Pacheco, Arsen Zakharyan and Sheraldo Becker are all expected to be out of Imanol Alguacil’s travelling party. As with Real Madrid, La Real’s camp also has no suspensions and with a deficit to overturn in the upcoming bout, they will look to press high and attack right from the word go.
The visitors are not in the best form and won at the weekend for the first time in five games as Mikel Oyarzabal and Sergio Gomez scored in a 2-1 home win against Real Valladolid in La Liga. In the Copa del Rey, Sociedad have progressed to the last four at the expenses of Jove Espanol, Conquense, Ponferradina, Rayo Vallecano and Osasuna. Having already been knocked out of the Europa League, the domestic cup is the only piece of silverware they can win this season.
An exciting and very possible an end-to-end battle is set to take place between two quality sides at the Santiago Bernabeu as they look to book their berth in the Copa del Rey final on April 26th. They will face one of Atletico Madrid or Barcelona, depending on whoever emerges victorious from their semi-final tie on Wednesday evening with the first leg having ended in a thrilling 4-4 stalemate.
