A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Friday been rewarded for his recent form by way of an international call.

The player in question? Raúl Asencio.

Stopper Asencio is for his part of course in the midst of nothing short of an explosion onto the world stage of football.

Afforded a chance to impress owing only to an injury crisis at the heart of Real Madrid’s backline, the 22-year-old has since taken full advantage, and more.

Alongside Antonio Rüdiger, Asencio has quickly established himself as the most reliable defensive performer in Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded squad.

Despite his tender years and relative inexperience at senior level, the defender has looked completely unphased by the leap in demands, shining both in and out of possession.

And as alluded to above, on Friday, such efforts have been deservedly recognised on the part of his country.

This comes amid confirmation that Asencio has been afforded his maiden call-up to Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish national team setup.
