Roberto De Zerbi was present today in his pre-match press conference ahead of Olympique de Marseille’s Round of 32 Coupe de France clash against Lille. After convincingly beating Saint-Étienne in the previous round (0-4), Les Olympiens will come up against another difficult test in Les Dogues on Tuesday evening. This is all the while the likes of Lyon and PSG are faced with ties against amateur sides this mid-week. De Zerbi said the following in citations transcribed by L’Équipe.
“I live to win. we’re here to build first and then succeed. But before we can talk about lifting the cup, we need to win tomorrow, as the Coupe de France final is still a long way off,” said the former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach, with whom he reached the semi-finals of the English FA Cup in 2023.
“The good news is that we’re playing at the Velodrome,” highlighted the Italian, adding “We want to win this Cup, and if you want to do that, you have to beat the big teams. The gap between the first and third division teams isn’t that big. Maybe we’ll have easier matches later on, if we can get past Lille. But at least we’ve been warned. It’s a tough match for us, but also for Lille.”GFFN | George Boxall
