There is both good and bad news for Roma today, because while they’ll pocket €9m from Samuel Dahl’s sale to Benfica, goalkeeper Mile Svilar will not sign a new contract.
The Giallorossi are preparing to build a new team for coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who will arrive from Atalanta on a three-year deal.
They are still under Financial Fair Play restrictions, so it is very positive indeed that transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports they have reached an agreement to sell Dahl to Benfica for €9m.
A different version of the figures is given by Il Tempo reporter Filippo Biafora, who states it will be worth €11m and a 40 per cent cut of the sell-on fee.
Samuel Dahl joins Roma
The 22-year-old Sweden international had joined Benfica on loan for €600,000 in February.
The option to buy was worth €10m plus a 20 per cent cut of the sell-on fee, but the clubs managed to renegotiate that to just €9m.
It is not yet clear if Roma will still maintain a sell-on percentage.

The bad news is that Svilar’s agent reportedly told Radio Radio today that the goalkeeper has no intention of signing a new contract.
It comes after rumours the 25-year-old’s wage demands were considered ‘excessive’ by the club chiefs.
Svilar’s current deal runs to June 2027, so there is time to work something out, but a sale this summer is now increasingly likely.
He arrived from Benfica as a free agent in the summer of 2022, initially as second-choice goalkeeper, but was effectively launched by Daniele De Rossi, then kept on by Claudio Ranieri.
Manchester City are among the clubs interested in the shot-stopper.
