Manchester United’s Transfer Turmoil Deepens: Amorim Unhappy with Key Players

Manchester United’s turbulent season shows no signs of quieting, with the latest revelations indicating that manager Ruben Amorim is losing patience with two of the club’s most high-profile young talents: Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho. According to a recent exclusive by Give Me Sport, United are prepared to part ways with Hojlund after what has been a deeply disappointing Premier League campaign.

It is hard to understate the scale of United’s collapse this season. Not only has their domestic form reached record lows, but the team also failed to qualify for European competition next year after a crushing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. That loss has seemingly triggered a reset under Amorim, who only joined midway through the season following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

Amorim, brought in for his tactical intelligence and transformative work at Sporting CP, now finds himself leading a squad riddled with underperformance and imbalance. As Give Me Sport reports, “Amorim has ‘made it clear to the Manchester United hierarchy’ that Hojlund being his only striker is not a situation he wants to continue.”

Hojlund’s Decline Raises Eyebrows

The Danish striker arrived at Old Trafford last August for a hefty £72 million fee, with hopes that his athleticism and finishing could revive United’s faltering attack. At just 20 when he signed, there was always an understanding that he would need time to adapt. However, as he now turns 22, concerns have mounted.

In the Premier League, Hojlund’s numbers are stark: just four goals and one assist in 31 appearances, totalling 1,933 minutes. Though he fared better in Europe with six goals in 15 Europa League matches, that hasn’t been enough to convince Amorim. The report adds that Amorim is “very surprised at Hojlund’s level of quality, given how much money he cost.”

There’s now a strong possibility that Hojlund could leave either permanently or on loan. With financial pressures mounting, a loan deal might be preferred to avoid taking a major loss, especially in light of the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Garnacho’s Exit Confirmed

Equally shocking is the news that Alejandro Garnacho has already been told to find a new club. Once heralded as one of the brightest young prospects to come through the United academy, Garnacho’s time at the club appears to be over before it truly began.

While the reasons for this decision have not been fully disclosed, it is believed to be part of a larger rebuild orchestrated by Amorim, who is keen to assert control over the squad dynamics and playing style. Given Garnacho’s inconsistency and reported attitude concerns, his departure now seems a matter of when, not if.

Financial Fallout Looms

Missing out on European competition means Manchester United will lose a major revenue stream, forcing them to sell more players than initially planned. The club’s failure to make Europe also dims their attractiveness to prospective signings, compounding the difficulty of rebuilding effectively.

As the report highlights, “The club will now not play in Europe next term, cutting off what would’ve been a crucial source of funds.” That statement underlines the fiscal domino effect now facing the club. Big earners and misfiring signings like Hojlund might be the first casualties, especially if they can still attract interest from clubs abroad.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a United supporter’s standpoint, this news is gutting. Watching Hojlund struggle was frustrating enough, but to now hear the manager has lost faith in him so quickly feels like déjà vu. How many times are we going to splash ridiculous amounts on young talent only to discard them within two seasons?

Hojlund isn’t blameless. Four goals in the league is unacceptable, no matter how raw you are. But let’s be honest, how often was he given proper service? The midfield has been a mess, the wingers too selfish, and yet the blame falls on him.

Garnacho being told to leave is even more baffling. He may lack maturity at times, but he’s one of the few players who actually cares. We’ve seen him run his socks off, fight for every ball and deliver in big moments. Amorim might have a vision, but he risks throwing away the heart of this team.

Ruben Amorim needs to get this rebuild absolutely right. Fans are losing patience, not just with players, but with yet another changing philosophy. If next season doesn’t start strongly, the mood at Old Trafford could turn toxic very quickly.
