Ruben Amorim’s transfer budget revealed for summer rebuild – report

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly received a handsome transfer budget for the upcoming summer transfer window, meaning that a squad rebuild could well and truly be underway.
This season has proven to be one to forget for the Man United faithful, especially after Wednesday night’s crushing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final.
It’s clear that the club is in desperate need of a competent striker, given Rasmus Hojlund’s obvious inadequacy, while the club may also need to pursue some new wingers and attacking midfielders, given the expected departures of Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford.
With the likes of Matheus Cunha expected to complete a deal, Amorim will be glad to receive a handsome inflow of funds ahead of what will be a crucial transfer window.
“Ruben Amorim has a summer transfer budget of a little less than £100m and retains Manchester United’s firm backing despite Wednesday’s Europa League final defeat by Tottenham,” The Guardian reported.
“As the Guardian previously reported, the executive’s belief in Amorim was not going to be affected by the result at San Mamés in Bilbao. The football department, headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, wants the Portuguese to have a first pre-season with his team and to strengthen the squad,” the report continued..
“Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, Ipswich’s No 9 Liam Delap and a playmaker remain Amorim’s prime targets, and the club do not have to sell to buy either. This is because of the cuts made by Ratcliffe, which include a latest round of redundancies that, when executed, will take the total number of job losses to about 450.”
Although United’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, may have implemented several controversial cost-cutting measures, it appears that he is willing to provide Amorim with the financial bandwidth he needs to strengthen his squad before any sales are even required.
This would surely allow United to secure some priority signings early on in the window, rather than having to wait until current players are sold, potentially losing out to competitors as a result.
Although INEOS have received plenty of ire for some of their decisions, which is clear from the reported booing at the United staff party, this financial move seems to be the right thing to do.
After all, if United expect to compete with elite European clubs for transfers, they will need to outperform them financially, especially since there will be no European football coming to Old Trafford next season.
Having retained the board’s confidence despite the Europa League final defeat, Amorim will need to act decisively this summer so that he can get his team off to a strong start next season. After all, his job will depend on it.
