Hours ago, Southampton prodigy Sam Amo-Ameyaw joined Strasbourg on loan. Spent crucial years at St. Mary's, Amo-Ameyaw looked emotional, penning a gratitude note for the Saints.
Football is an emotional support. You can't just disagree with this if you witnessed just these- Southampton's 2017 EFL Cup heartbreak and the painful relegation two seasons ago.
But, while these two are a tale of the past, a recent departure is moving the Saints fans now.
We are talking about Southampton prodigy Sam Amo-Ameyaw.
The 18-year-old recently completed a loan move to French club Strasbourg. Certainly, this isn't new for promising stars, but it is the transfer terms that raise concerns among Southampton fans.
If this wasn't enough, a heartfelt farewell from Amo-Ameyaw has made all the fans teary-eyed.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, the teenager posted: "I'd like to thank everyone at Southampton for making my time there a real learning experience. Thank you to the fans for believing in me the moment I first stepped on the pitch. I will never forget your support! To the staff and teammates, I wish you the best of luck moving forward with this club."
Now, generally, a farewell isn't expected from a loanee, that's why this note becomes rather more important.
Remember, Amo-Ameyaw's last days at the club? It may sound harsh, but the winger wasn't a part of boss Ivan Juric's plans.
For a reason, just one month after Juric's arrival, Amo-Ameyaw was restricted to the youth U21s side, while being suggested a departure.
Thus, chances are anyway slim that Amo-Ameyaw would want to return post-loan. On the other hand, if the rising teen hits the ground running at Strasbourg, it could be game over for Southampton.
