Former Premier League star Theo Walcott has compared Moises Caicedo to former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele.
Caicedo has had an outstanding season and is likely to be named Chelsea’s Player of the Season, with the 23-year-old showing why the Blues spent a British record £115m on him.
The midfielder was once again outstanding in the 1-0 win against Everton on Saturday, where he started at right back, and Maresca believes he’s one of the best midfielders in the world.
Chelsea have been blessed with top midfielders over the years including N’Golo Kante, Michael Essien and of course Makelele.
Makelele joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2003 and spent five years at Stamford Bridge, where he won two Premier Leagues and was so good he had a position named after him.

Walcott has now compared Caicedo to the former Chelsea great and admitted he’s a huge fan of the current Chelsea number 25.
“For me, one of the best midfield players in that position that’s ever lived, Makelele,” he told the Premier League’s YouTube channel.
“A bit before [N’Golo] Kante. Kante took Makelele’s thrown a little bit to some extent. But he (Caicedo) is as close as you’re going to get to the modern era of that position. He can fill the right-back as well.
“You talk about the price tag, but it doesn’t faze him. He’s an absolute rock, sadly in the wrong shirt for me. I’m a huge fan of his because he unlocks the door for people like Cole Palmer to do their thing.
“He’s an extra man in that midfield, maybe two or three, that’s how good he is.”

Former Blue Jason Cundy believes Caicedo is arguably more important to Chelsea than Cole Palmer, and the Blues have no natural alternative to him in the squad.
Caicedo has been linked with a move to Saudi side Al-Nassr, but it’s hard to imagine in any world Chelsea agreeing to let the Ecuador international go.
