It’s crunch time in the 2024/25 Serie A season as Juventus and Hellas Verona go head-to-head in a high-stakes clash at the Allianz Stadium. Anything less than three points against one of the division’s weakest performers would only heighten the pressure on home boss Thiago Motta.

Despite stringing together a four-game winning league streak for the first time this season, Motta has recently come under heavy scrutiny. Indeed, a 1-0 home victory against Derby d’Italia rivals Inter in Juventus’ last home outings was a saving grace amid a rotten patch.

Elimination from the Champions League knockout playoffs at the hands of PSV Eindhoven was a bitter pill, especially after Juventus won the first leg in Turin. However, there was no excuse for exiting the Coppa Italia to Serie A relegation fighters Empoli on this ground last midweek.

As a result, Juventus will be out to redeem themselves to the Turin faithful against a Verona side they humbled 3-0 in August’s reverse fixture on the road. That loss was one of the visitors’ joint-high 16 pre-round, yet they still head into proceedings four points clear of the bottom three.

Paolo Zanetti’s side received a timely confidence boost ahead of this trip as Antoine Bernede’s 95th-minute winner propelled them to a 1-0 victory against European hopefuls Fiorentina last weekend. That triumph halted their two-game losing league run, during which they conceded six unanswered goals.

Match Preview

Juventus

With Lazio beating Milan last night, Juventus must beat Verona for the second time this season to reclaim their place in Serie A’s top four. That should be a routine task, at least on paper. But despite hitting a purple patch in league action, their recent showings lacked conviction.

Indeed, Juventus’ last three top-flight victories yielded a single-goal margin, with two producing an identical 1-0 scoreline. Furthermore, slow out of the blocks, Juventus have only netted one first-half goal in six competitive games at the Allianz Stadium in 2025.

However, Juventus remain one of only two Serie A teams yet to suffer a league defeat this season in a game that stood level at halftime (W5, D8). Verona’s visit should be ‘another day in the office’ for the record-time Italian champions, considering they’ve won 13 out of 14 home meetings in Serie A since 1990.

The only exception was a 1-1 draw in October 2020, while the teams also shared spoils in last season’s encounter at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. Therefore, Juventus would be naive to take this match for granted.

Hellas Verona

Bernede’s match-winning goal against Fiorentina marked Verona’s third in their last eight league outings, highlighting Zanetti’s attack as a potential weak link. Verona’s scoring woes look set to continue as they meet Juventus, a side they’ve failed to score against in five of their last six top-flight clashes.

As the only team in Serie A to concede 50+ goals this season (54), Verona must also worry about avoiding another catastrophic scoreline in Turin. Indeed, they’ve also all three away matches against current top-five sides this term via an aggregate score of 10-2, conceding multiple goals on each occasion.

Unlike Juventus, whose propensity for draws under Motta has become notorious, Verona’s matches have rarely ended all square. Indeed, they’ve posted a league-low two Serie A stalemates this season, suggesting this game would likely go one way or the other.

However, a low-scoring theme could be in store, considering three of Verona’s last four away league games have featured under 2.5 goals.

Team News

In addition to long-term absentees Juan Cabal, Gleison Bremer, and Arkadiusz Milik, Juventus will be without several other first-team stars. Nicolo Savona, Douglas Luiz, and Renato Veiga are also on the sidelines, meaning Federico Gatti and Lloyd Kelly should partner up at the back.

On the other hand, Verona cannot call upon top scorer Casper Tengstedt, plus the likes of Suat Serdar, Martin Frese, and Abdou Harroui. Therefore, Amin Sarr should lead the line, supported by Tomas Suslov and Bernede.

Juventus vs Hellas Verona Potential Starting Line-ups

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Weah, Gatti, Kelly, Cambiaso; Thuram, Locatelli; Conceicao, McKennie, Yildiz; Kolo Muani.

Hellas Verona (3-5-1-1): Montipo; Dawidowicz, Coppola, Valentini; Tchatchoua, Niasse, Bernede, Duda, Bradaric; Suslov; Sarr.

Juventus vs Hellas Verona Prediction

There’s no room for a mistake as Juventus must take three points to leapfrog Lazio into fourth and re-establish a feel-good factor after bowing out of the Coppa Italia.
