Sheffield United did enough to see out their 1-0 scoreline against Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston North End.

The only goal of the game came when Tyrese Campbell got the run on his man at the near post to connect with Harrison Burrows’ cross, and the in-form striker flicked it beyond the Preston goalkeeper and wielded away in celebration in the 56th minute.

Chris Wilder made no changes to the starting eleven, remaining with the same team that saw off a one-goal lead at QPR.

First Half

The game began with great intensity as the hosts nearly took the lead within the first 90 seconds. Harrison Burrows delivered a low cross to the far post, where Campbell found himself in prime position. However, despite the opportunity, he failed to convert, missing the target from a tight angle.

Just moments later, Porteous came dangerously close to an own goal when he misjudged Brereton Diaz’s cross, nearly diverting the ball into his own net.

Campbell, determined to make up for his earlier miss, was soon presented with another chance. However, the Preston goalkeeper was up to the task, denying him with a crucial stop. Meanwhile, Hamer also had a sight of goal, breaking free in midfield before dragging his effort wide while carrying the ball at full speed..

Preston, largely on the defensive, had a rare foray forward when Potts latched onto a cross from Keane inside the box. Potts went down under a challenge from Vinicius Souza, but the referee remained unmoved, waving away Preston’s penalty appeals.

Second Half

The second half began with an early opening as Hamer played a perfectly weighted pass to send Brereton Diaz through on goal. However, Preston goalkeeper Freddie Woodman reacted quickly, closing down the angle and making an important save to keep his side in the contest once again.

The game then saw a moment of high drama when Greenwood unleashed a powerful effort that rattled the woodwork, coming agonisingly close to putting his team ahead. But just a minute later, the breakthrough finally arrived. Harrison Burrows delivered an inviting cross into the box, and Campbell made a smart run across his marker at the near post, guiding his header past the PNE keeper to give the hosts a well-deserved lead.

In response, the visitors made changes, bringing on Ryan Ledson and Ched Evans in a bid to turn the game around. However, their attacking efforts were limited to long-range strikes at Michael Cooper’s goal, none of which truly troubled the goalkeeper.
