Chelsea target Mathys Tel could change his mind about wanting to leave Bayern Munich after playing no minutes in the last three games according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues once again struggled in attack as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday night despite taking the lead.

It’s now one win in seven for Enzo Maresca’s men, who have dropped to sixth in the table and they could really do with attacking reinforcements before the window closes.

Romano believes Tel situation could change

Chelsea are desperate for an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, who after making a good start to the season hasn’t scored in his last seven games.

Christopher Nkunku by Maresca’s own admission isn’t a number nine, whilst Marc Guiu at just 18 isn’t ready for regular first team minutes.

The Blues have been linked with Liam Delap, but a January move is seen as unlikely, whilst they are said to have joined the race for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea had explored a move for Tel earlier in the window, with Bayern said to be keen on signing Nkunku, and the Blues are said to have set their asking price at £65m.

It’s been reported Tel’s dream is to succeed at Bayern making a move very difficult, however, Romano has provided an update which could give Chelsea some hope.

He took to X.com and said:

“Understand Mathys Tel case could still change, 0 minutes in 3 games and situation to be assessed again in the next days.

“Chelsea remain interested if Mathys will be open to leave, as revealed; 7 clubs have also requested Tel on loan.

“Decision still up to the player, as his desire has always been to stay and succeed at Bayern.”

Tel is regarded as a big talent who can play both on the left and through the middle, although being 19 and not having the most experience at the top level, you would have to question whether he’s capable of making the instant impact which Chelsea need.

It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds, but what Chelsea really need is someone who can come in and make that instant impact and not another project player.
