Chelsea’s entanglement with Jadon Sancho continues to dominate the transfer headlines in this international break.
The winger’s steep drop off in form has meant there are now major doubts about whether the Blues should go ahead paying the obligation to turn his loan deal into a permanent move. Sky Sports reported about it yesterday, making it clear that the Blues still expect to go ahead with the pre-arranged transfer.
“Chelsea are still expected to sign Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United in the summer, despite the revelation of a ‘get out clause’. Manchester United would be due a £5m penalty payment from Chelsea, should they wish to get out of the £25m obligation included in the loan deal,” they said of the move.
They also note the statistical drop off which is causing these sudden doubts – he contributed 5 goals and assist between August and December, compared to just 1 assist and no shots on target in 10 games.

Sancho has disappointed, there’s no denying it. Most fans weren’t too excited for his arrival, given the struggles he had in his years at Man U. But there was always a flicker of hope that a new environment could spark something within the former Man City prodigy.
Instead, under Enzo Maresca we see much the same we saw under Erik Ten Hag – not much at all.
Signing him still seems sensible simply because it would be made to pay to not buy him. But we’d be surprised if they don’t just see him as a £25m squad player now. If Dortmund are keen to buy him from us, we could yet make a profit on the whole operation.
