Sky Sports: United chiefs feel one player is ‘driving’ his own speculation of a move this transfer window

Marcus Rashford’s expected departure from Manchester United is now looking ‘increasingly complex’ heading into the final two weeks of the transfer window.

As expected, the forward’s £325,000-a-week wages are proving too costly for any interested European club to try and cover. Borussia Dortmund are keen to sanction his arrival, but any prospective deal would require United to fork out a large portion of his pay to get a loan agreement over the line.

Leading into the month, AC Milan were believed to be front-runners to sign Rashford after learning of his availability. However, they have room for only one non-EU player left in the squad and are prioritising a deal for Manchester City wantaway Kyle Walker.

Sky Sports weighed in on his situation this afternoon via Melissa Reddy and Dharmesh Sheth, who said: “United are understood to be relaxed over the situation. The feeling is talk of a move has been driven by Rashford.”

It leaves Rashford with few options over where to ply his trade next. His absence during yesterday’s defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion marked the ninth game in all competitions that he’s been uninvolved – despite being frequently spotted in attendance at Old Trafford to support the team.

Ruben Amorim’s stance is damning for Rashford

Judging by Ruben Amorim’s latest comments, the outcast is no closer to being restored to the squad, either. He told reporters at full-time on Sunday: “No matter what, I am NOT going to put a player [in that] I do NOT believe is the best for the team. Marcus is out of this moment because he is not playing.”

With that in mind, it poses the question as to what he plans to do if Rashford remains at his disposal when the window closes. Leaving such a highly-paid player out of the fold is a bold decision anyway, but doing so when he has another three years on his deal means United are losing substantial money each week while the 27-year-old doesn’t even have to lift a finger.
