Arne Slot has defended Trent Alexander-Arnold and insists the right-back ‘has had one difficult game’ for Liverpool this season.
Alexander-Arnold, who is under scrutiny amid an approach from Real Madrid, struggled during the club’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United last weekend.
The 26-year-old started the Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham on the bench in midweek, though Slot has no concerns over the player’s focus.
He praised the impact Alexander-Arnold had from the bench at Spurs and insists the defender has mainly ‘had great games’ for Liverpool this season. The Dutchman also said he was pleased by the reaction of the Liverpool fans to Alexander-Arnold, as speculation continues to surround a potential move to Spain.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup’s third round this weekend, Slot said: “I do see a certain pattern in the goals we concede, but I don’t see the pattern if it is about Trent. Not at all.
“Trent has had one difficult game for us [in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield] and maybe a few that were OK to good.
“Mainly he has had great games when he played for us this season.
“I know there is a lot of focus on him at the moment, but I would also like to highlight the focus on how well he did when he came on in the last half hour [against Tottenham on Wednesday] and how our fans reacted to him, that is what pleased me even more during that game.”
