Ange Postecoglou says he thinks some of the criticism that has been aimed at him of late is “not genuine”.
The Tottenham boss has seen his attacking approach questioned in recent weeks with Spurs struggling for form, having lost four of their last five Premier League games.
He saw his approach questioned again after a 6-3 defeat to Liverpool before Christmas, and in an interview with BBC Sport after the game said: “I’m just going to stop answering these questions,” when asked if there were other factors besides injuries that are to blame for his side conceding too many goals. “If people can’t see the obvious I‘m not going to point it out,” he continued.
And ahead of his side’s game against Wolves, Postecoglou expanded on those comments: “I’m going to get asked about it (his tactics) so obviously I’m going to talk about it.
“I just think some people aren’t genuine about it. They just use it to poke me and after a loss, I’m going to react. I understand that, it’s part of the game.
“If they are genuine questions, I’m happy to answer them but I think some people just think ‘you know what, he’s not going to be happy, let’s just ask him whether he’s got a plan B’ and they think they’re clever.
“Like I said, I’m a human being, I don’t like losing. They get a reaction out of me, they’re happy, they go home and tell their friends about it: ‘Did you see what I made Ange Postecoglou say?’.
“Life goes on. I’m happy to cop that. But I think you know I’m always open to talking about my beliefs and my methodology to anyone who has genuine questions about it.”
