Southampton's promotion-winning fan favourite Nigel Adkins calls time on his Tranmere Rovers spell.

We're approaching the end of the month and Southampton fans would have a lucky feeling for a while now. Understandably, because the club's monotonous Premier League commitments aren't due soon for a good ten days.

Yet, enough can happen at the club without needing even a kickoff whistle. If you have noticed Ivan Juric's thought-provoking post-match views, it can be assumed that his time as a Saint is steadily running out.

Plus, the Southampton board may approve his dismissal quickly after watching the recent developments in English football. The reason being that a club legend has also been handed his marching orders elsewhere.

Nigel Adkins vacates his head coach designation at Tranmere Rovers

Suffering a similar fortune as Southampton, English fourth division outfit Tranmere Rovers is also lying on the brink of relegation. Languishing just two points above the dropping zone, Tranmere took a massive step by terminating Adkins' management contract.

While the League Two relegation favourites didn't see much success with Adkins, the latter's Southampton stay was a fairytale one. Guiding the club through their chaotic moments, Adkins prevented the Saints from slipping even further.

On top of that, he rapidly restored Southampton's top flight prestige by two successive promotions. Last year, Russell Martin's dream Championship run is enough to imagine the miraculous hard work done by Adkins.

Otherwise, it's safe to admit that Southampton will still be aiming to work their way to the Championship ladder.

Honestly, a significant portion of the St. Mary's faithful would want to witness Nigel Adkins return to the club. Currently being out-of-work, Adkins might be inclined toward his Southampton homecoming if the opportunity presents itself.
