The Irish forward netted the Hoops’ fifth goal of the night with a simple close-range finish, bringing his season total to an impressive 20.
During the build-up to the goal, McArdle – who replaced Luke McCowan in the second half – slipped a clever reverse ball through to Nicolas Kuhn. Kuhn’s effort was parried by Dimitar Mitov, falling kindly for Idah to finish the move.
“A poacher’s goal that, from Adam Idah,” said Sutton live on commentary on Sky Sports. “McArdle is brilliant here. Great awareness. That ball round the corner [is]superb. For Adam Idah, as easy as they come.”

McArdle made a real impact during his short time on the pitch, showing composure in possession and nearly getting on the scoresheet with a shot from just outside the area. The 17 year-old is quite clearly a real prospect – his sharp touches and vision was evident for the period he was on the pitch. There is still a long journey ahead, but his natural ability is clear to see.

Brendan Rodgers had no hesitation in singling out McArdle for praise post-match. “I liked him when he came on,” he said. “I like the young players, and any player that you play for Celtic, you have to have personality.”
“And you could see at 17, he comes into the game, he takes the ball, he passes the ball. He’s got a wee edge to him as well that I like. He plays a lovely little one round the corner, which leads to Adam’s goal.”
“And that’s the personality you need to have to play for Celtic. So, yes, I was really pleased for Sean, like I was for the team.”

It would be pleasing to see McArdle involved once again this weekend against St Mirren. He is definitely one that should be involved in senior matchday squads in pre-season from what we have seen so far.
