Manchester United are reportedly looking to show Rasmus Hojlund the door next summer, as West Ham emerges as a possible destination.

The Red Devils hastily signed the 22-year-old from Atalanta in the summer of 2023, splashing a whopping £72 million to wrap up the deal rather rapidly. At the time, the Dane had only enjoyed one decent campaign in Italy’s top flight, but the Premier League giants deemed him ready to take Old Trafford by storm.

After an underwhelming first season in England, Hojlund is enduring yet another disappointing campaign. While his five-goal tally in the Europa League is decent enough, he only found the back of the net twice in his 19 Premier League appearances. These figures hardly depict the world-class striker Man Utd have been craving for years.

So according to TalkSport, the Reds would be happy to part ways with Hojlund next summer if West Ham – or any other suitor for that matter – comes knocking on the door with an offer worth £40 million. Even though that would constitute a financial loss for the club, United are willing to cut their losses on this front, explains the source.

The Hammers are reportedly keeping tabs on the Denmark international as they could need a new centre-forward come the summer, and have identified Hojlund as a player who has potential despite his Man Utd struggles.

The East Londoners managed to secure the services of Evan Fergusson in January, signing him on loan from Brighton. But if the 20-year-old delivers the goods in the second of the season, his market value would skyrocket, thus splashing West Ham out of the water.

On the other hand, Hojlund could represent a more affordable alternative, while the competition should be less ferocious.
