Premier League legend Alan Shearer has made his prediction for Liverpool vs Chelsea and revealed what he believes will be the key battle.

The Blues face their toughest test of the season on Sunday at Anfield as they begin a run of games which sees them also face Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal before the next international break.

Enzo Maresca has made a good start to the season and Chelsea currently sit fourth with 14 points from a possible 21 and haven’t lost since the opening day of the season against Manchester City.

Shearer makes Chelsea Liverpool prediction

A first win at Anfield since 2021 would see Chelsea move just a point behind Liverpool, but Maresca recently shut down talk of the Blues being title contenders.

Chelsea are also winless in their last nine meetings with the Reds and Maresca has warned is players in the lead up to the game they can’t rely on Cole Palmer to solve their problems.

The Blues certainly have the players to cause Liverpool problems and are the second highest scorers in the league with 16 goals, one behind Manchester City, but they are yet to come up against a defence as good as Liverpool’s.

It’s got all the makings of a great game and Shearer believes Chelsea would be delighted to head back to London with a point.

“Chelsea will be happy to walk away from Anfield with a point, despite the injury to Alisson. I know they dropped points in their last home game vs Forest, but I would imagine Enzo Maresca would snap your hands off for a point here,” he told The Metro.

“The key battle will be in midfield, where I think Liverpool have been strong. Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis MacAllister have been superb, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.

“The international break always makes it a little bit tougher to call, as you wait to see how players are when they return to their clubs, whether they’re ready or not to start the game.

“If everyone is fit and everyone plays, that midfield battle will be key, and I think Liverpool will come out on top.”

Chelsea currently have a 100% away record this season, whilst Liverpool have already suffered defeat at Anfield to Nottingham Forest, but the Blues face a very tough task to keep that record in tact.
