Real Madrid’s path to the Decimosexta in the UEFA Champions League is set to be an incredibly challenging one, with a series of tough matches lined up.

The team has been drawn into the most difficult half of the tournament, meaning their journey to the final in Munich on 31 May is filled with obstacles that could test their strength, resilience, and depth.

At the top of the list of potential hurdles are Manchester City. The English side, always a tough opponent in European competition, will be waiting in the play-offs.

The problems do not end there

Furthermore, should Real Madrid manage to overcome them, they will face a Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid or Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16, with the first leg to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

This alone promises to be a tricky encounter, as both Atletico and Bayer Leverkusen are teams capable of making life difficult for any opponent.

If they make it past these challenges, Real Madrid will encounter even stronger opposition in the quarter-finals.

They will face the winner of the tie between Juventus and PSV, both of which are known for their competitive European history.

On top of this, there is also the looming presence of Arsenal or Inter Milan, teams that are always a threat in the knockout stages of the competition.

There is more

In the same half of the draw, Paris Saint-Germain could also be a major concern, particularly if they eliminate Brest. The French side could then meet Barcelona or Liverpool in the semi-finals, further complicating Real Madrid’s route to the final.

On that side, Bayern Munich stand out as the primary challenger, but the other teams are seen as more attainable, with Celtic facing Bayern in the play-offs.

Additionally, teams on this side would avoid the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, or PSG until the final, making their path to the grand stage somewhat less difficult. For Real Madrid, the road to the final is undeniably a tough one.

They already know they won’t be facing teams like Monaco, Benfica, or Borussia Dortmund until the final, but the teams they will face leading up to the grand event will test every ounce of their European pedigree.

With so many powerful contenders on their side of the draw, it’s clear that this will be one of their toughest challenges in recent years.
