Manchester City and Newcastle United have confirmed their starting lineups ahead of today’s crucial Premier League fixture at the Etihad. Both teams will be eager to pick up three points to jump up to fourth in the Premier League table. Chelsea’s loss to Brighton last night has opened up that possibility for both teams today. Today’s match has the potential to be a classic based on what is at stake for both teams.
For Manchester City, they will be without several players for today’s match. Rodri, Oscar Bobb and Manuel Akanji will miss today’s match due to injury. Akanji is set for a sustained spell on the sidelines due to an abductor injury. The Swiss international sustained the injury late in the first half of Manchester City’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid earlier this week.
Jack Grealish and Nico are also in doubt for today’s match. Grealish was substituted early on during City’s loss to Real Madrid. It would be a surprise to see Grealish feature today based on what we saw against Real. Nico is a chance to play today although he remains in doubt for the match due to knock he sustained last weekend against Leyton Orient.
Here are the starting lineups for what looms as a crucial fixture for both teams.
Pep Guardiola had made 6 changes to to starting lineup against Real Madrid. In comes Rico Lewis, Abdukodir Khusanov, Ilkay Gundogan, Nico, Phil Foden, and Omar Marmoush. Out goes Manuel Akanji, Jack Grealish, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Nico starts his first Premier League game for Manchester City after recovering from the injury he sustained against Leyton Orient.
Starting lineup: Ederson, Lewis, Khusanov, Stones, Gvardiol, Nico, Gundogan, Foden, Marmoush, Savinho, Haaland.
Substitutes: Stefan Ortega, Kovacic, Doku, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Reis, Matheus Nunes, O’Reilly, McAtee.
