There were positives for Manchester City to take from their 2-all draw with Brighton yesterday. Pep Guardiola’s side needed to pick up all three points to aid their chase for a top-five finish but they were held to a draw by a quality Brighton side. One positive from the game was the signs that a partnership up front is developing between Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush. Based on the signs we saw yesterday it could be a fruitful one for Pep Guardiola’s side if the pair are provided with the service to prosper.
Yesterday saw Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush both get on the scoresheet yesterday. That was one positive for Manchester City. But in the first half, they did link up on several occasions. Their link-up play did help Manchester City earn the penalty that Haaland dispatched in the first. It was also a feature of City’s attacking play in the first half. Omar Marmoush looks to be the ideal partner for Erling Haaland. The Egyptian international can utilise the space that Haaland’s presence creates. That’s something to watch develop over the closing stages of this season.
Haaland and Marmoush did fade out of yesterday’s game in the second half. But there was plenty to suggest yesterday that they will form a lethal partnership. Their games do look to complement each other’s and that does give Pep Guardiola something to build Manchester City’s attack around. What they will need is service and that’s something for Jeremy Doku, Savinho, Phil Foden and whoever Manchester City sign in the summer to provide.
Yesterday’s result was disappointing for Pep Guardiola’s side. But the signs of a partnership developing between Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush was a positive to take from the game. You do get the sense that their partnership will be something for Pep Guardiola to build his team around. There are other pieces that need to be added around them but the foundation is there. That was a positive to take out of yesterday’s game for Manchester City.
