A trio of other key Spurs stars are in a race to be fit for the first leg in the Europa League last 16 next month

Tottenham look set to have all of Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie and James Maddison back in the squad for Sunday’s clash with Manchester United as the club’s long-running injury crisis finally begins to ease.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has also confirmed that forwards Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner are also close to making their respective returns from injury, with winger Wilson Odobert also back in training.

Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke are all two to three weeks away from returning, putting them in a race against time to be fit for the first leg of the Europa League last-16 phase on March 6.

Radu Dragusin is currently recovering from surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Richarlison suffered a calf injury during last week’s Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg defeat by Liverpool at Anfield.

Delivering the latest detailed team news update ahead of Sunday’s visit of Manchester United to north London, under-pressure Tottenham manager Postecoglou said: “Some of the lads who have been out for quite a while look like they are in a good place now after a good week of training.

“Vic [Vicario] is probably the one who has come back ahead of schedule, he’s been training really well away from the team for maybe two weeks.

“In the last 10 days he’s integrated back into the team and fully into our training. He’s in a good place which means he becomes available for us.

“Madders [Maddison] also is a little bit ahead of schedule, he’s feeling really good and has had a good week of training. We were thinking maybe next week for him but he’s trained really well all week and had the least amount of time out, so he’s looking in a good place.

“Some of the longer-term ones, Destiny is back in team training as well which is good. He’s ticked all the boxes in terms of getting through his rehab and conditioning, so he’s part of the squad.

“Wilson is back, which is brilliant for him because he’s obviously been out the longest and it’s been a long road for him to get back. He’s back in team training but obviously he’s missed more football than the others, so we’ll see when we reintegrate him back into matchdays. He’s definitely looking good in training.

“Brennan is progressing well, joined in team training. We’ll train today [Friday] so whether it’s this weekend or next weekend, he’ll be good to go. The last one who is training with us at the moment is Timo, he’s also getting pretty close to being available.

“The other ones, the main ones are Micky, Cuti [Romero] and Dom [Solanke]. Again, we’re looking at over two to three weeks with them.”

Asked specifically about the recovery progress of first-choice centre-backs Van de Ven and Romero, Postecoglou said: “They are going well.

“With Micky because he played that game [against Elfsborg in January], we decided that we would take a different strategy with him. We just want to make sure he’s absolutely right.

“Similar with Cuti, we’re just waiting. The healing of his quad has taken longer than we thought it would. He’s still got one more scan he needs to have just to make sure it’s healed properly. But once we get that signed off, he should be good to go.”

Finishing with a new update on Richarlison, the Australian added: “His was a calf, Madders and Brennan had similar injuries. Depending on how he recovers, Madders has bounced back really quickly, it’s only been two-and-a-bit weeks for him.

“Brennan has been three weeks, so we’re looking at about the same sort of time frame for Richy.”
