Arsenal have found out their next opponent for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
The Gunners automatically qualified for the last 16 of the European competition after a top-eight finish in the league phase. The club were third in the standings with 19 points.
It was already known that Arsenal would face either Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven in the next round. Following today’s draw, it has been confirmed that they will take on PSV.
The Eredivisie outfit progressed to the round of 16 after an excellent 4-3 aggregate win over Juventus.
The first leg will be played in the Netherlands on March 4 or 5 with the reverse leg at the Emirates Stadium on either March 11 or 12.
Arsenal have played PSV in each of the last two seasons. They have won both of their home games while drawing and losing their matches on the road to the Dutch heavyweights.
If the Gunners were to beat PSV across two legs, they will face either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final of the competition.
In that case, they will host Madrid or Atletico in the first leg before the reverse leg in Spain.
Arsenal have a winnable fixture on paper for the round of 16 against PSV but can’t afford to be complacent and need to get the job done.
They face a daunting challenge against Madrid or Atletico in the last eight. Hopefully, the club will go into those fixtures with form and momentum.
